Matt Pebole and junior guard
Tim Llewellyn scored 15 points apiece to lead the Hobart basketball team to a 70-54 victory at Geneseo tonight. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 2-2, while the Blue Knights fall to 0-2.
Hobart shot 42.9 percent from the floor, including seven three pointers, while holding Geneseo to just 32.7 percent.
Seven minutes into the contest, the Statesmen trailed 13-12, but outscored the Blue Knights 19-6 over the next 10 minutes to build a 31-19 lead. Llewellyn sank a pair of free throws to close out the first half scoring, and send Hobart into the break with a 35-22 lead.
Pebole led all scorers with 10 first half points.
Statesmen junior guard
Mark Bruce opened the second half scoring with a three-pointer on his way to a nine-point, four-assist night. Kyle Stevens (11 pts, 11 reb) countered by making the front end of a two shot foul to trim Geneseo's deficit to 15, but the Blue Knights got no closer. Hobart led by as many as 26 down the stretch.
First-year guard
Rezin Davis also added nine points for the Statesmen. Geneseo's Brandon Simpson and John Scott added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Hobart is back in action on Dec. 1, when the Statesmen visit St. John Fisher. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
