Red Dragons top Statesmen

Box Score CORTLAND, N.Y.—The Hobart College hockey team fell to Cortland State 5-2 in a non-league game at Alumni Arena tonight. The Statesmen drop to 3-5-2 overall, while the Red Dragons improve to 4-5-0 on the season.

Hobart netted the first goal of the night, just 4 minutes, 36 seconds into the game. Juniors Patrick Moriarty and Matthew Wallace set up first-year Harry Radovich for his first collegiate tally, giving the Statesmen an early 1-0 lead.

Cortland answered with its first goal 10 minutes later, as Patrick Palmisano capitalized on a power play to even the game at 1-all. The teams took the tie into the first break.

Wallace scored just over five minutes into the second period to put Hobart back up by one, 2-1, but the Red Dragons again found an answer. Ryan Markell tallied in the 13th minute, his first of three on the night, to send the game into the third period knotted at 2-all. Statesmen first-year Chris Cannizzaro and Moriarty assisted on Wallace's goal.

Cortland netted three unanswered goals in the third period to take control of the game. Markell connected again 9:14 into the third stanza, and Jarrett Gold scored on a power play at 11:41 to put the Red Dragons up 4-2. Markell capped the period with an empty net goal at the 18:18 mark.

Hobart outshot Cortland 34-31, and was 0-for-3 on the power play. The Red Dragons were 2-for-2.

First-year goalie Martin Ausserhofer collected 26 stops for the Statesmen, while Brittan Kuhlman recorded 32 saves for the hosts.

Hobart will be back in action on Dec. 4, when the Statesmen travel to Utica for an ECAC West contest at 7 p.m.
