Box Score GENESEO, N.Y.—The Hobart College hockey team fell to Geneseo State 4-3 tonight in a non-league contest at the Ira S. Wilson Arena. The fifth-ranked Statesmen slip to 1-2-1 on the season, while the Ice Knights improve to 2-3-0 overall.
Junior
Matthew Wallace scored three goals to lead the Hobart offense. It marked Wallace's second career hat trick; he tallied three times in a win at Western New England College on Nov. 10, 2007.
Geneseo got off to a quick start, scoring two goals in the first four minutes of the game. Michael Forgione and Stefan Decosse tallied back-to-back at 2:38 and 3:42, respectively, to give the hosts' a 2-0 lead.
Wallace answered for the Statesmen at the 5:30 mark, bringing Hobart back within one. Junior
Tommy Capalbo set up the play.
The Knights increased their lead to 4-1 early in the second period with two more quick goals. Dan Brown was responsible for both, scoring at the 1:30 mark and tallying the eventual game-winner five minutes later.
In the 15th minute of the second period, Wallace netted his second goal of the night on a power play, assisted by Capalbo and first-year
Chris Cannizzaro. Wallace capitalized on another power play opportunity in the seventh minute of the third period to cut Hobart's deficit to one, 4-3, but the Statesmen would not even the game before time ran out. Cannizzaro and first-year
Brad Richard recorded the assists on Wallace's third goal.
Hobart held a 42-23 advantage in shots, and was 2-for-7 on the power play. Geneseo was 0-for-6.
First-year goalkeepers Martin Clarkson and
Nick Broadwater combined for 19 saves for the Statesmen, while Cory Gershon collected 39 stops for the Knights.
Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Nov. 7, when the Statesmen travel to Brockport State for a non-league game at 7 p.m.
