The Hobart College hockey team is ranked sixth in Division III for the second straight week, according to the latest USCHO.com poll. The Statesmen improved to 18-5-0 overall and 9-4-0 in the ECAC West after splitting two games with Neumann over the weekend.
Several Hobart hockey records were tied or broken in Saturday's 6-2 victory vs. the Knights. Junior
Nick DeCroo (Sarver, Pa.), sophomore
Matt Wallace (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and senior
Jason Merritt (Chapel Hill, N.C.) combined for three short-handed goals, setting a new program standard for short-handed goals in a game. DeCroo and Wallace are both just one away from tying the individual mark for short-handed goals in a season (4).
Senior goalkeeper
Keith Longo (Milford, Mass.) set a new record for wins in a season. He earned his 15th win of the year after collecting 34 saves in Saturday's game, breaking the record shared with Adam Lavelle '05. Longo paces the ECAC West with a .929 save percentage, ranks second in winning percentage (.750), and third in goals against average (2.45). He is one of 68 collegiate hockey players in the nation on the ballot to compete in the 2009 NCAA Frozen Four Skills Challenge. Voting on
NCAA.com is open until Feb. 18.
Saturday also marked ninth-year Head Coach
Mark Taylor's record-matching 128th victory. He has led Hobart to seven consecutive winning seasons and three NCAA Tournament appearances. This season, his Statesmen have already matched last year's win total (18), which is the second-highest in program history. Hobart notched 20 victories in 2005-06.
The Statesmen will wrap up their regular season schedule this weekend, Feb. 20-21, when they travel to 10th-ranked Manhattanville (16-3-3, 8-3-2 ECAC West) for two conference showdowns. Both contests will have
