Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—The William Smith College basketball team downed Vassar 58-50 tonight in Liberty League action. The Herons improved to 11-8 overall and 5-3 in the league, while the Brewers slipped to 3-16 on the season and 0-8 in the Liberty League.

Latasha Coney (Lyons/Lyons, N.Y.) made a strong bid for a triple-double, recording 18 points, nine rebounds, and eight steals. She also handed out a team-high four assists. Senior
Erin Cunningham (Morris Knolls/Rockaway, N.J.) posted 14 points and five boards, while sophomore
Ashlinn Barber (Spencer-Van Etten/Spencer, N.Y.) added eight points and seven rebounds.
Vassar was led by first-year Brittany Parks' game-high 30 points and six assists. Junior Emily Hauser contributed nine points and 13 rebounds.
The Herons jumped out to an early 11-4 lead in the first six minutes of action, capped by a jumper by first-year
Kristen Kush (Fulton/Fulton, N.Y.) and a free throw from Coney. William Smith kept the lead for the majority of the stanza, and held a 21-14 advantage with 8:47 remaining in the half.
The Brewers used a 9-2 run to come back and even the contest at 23-all with 2:49 left on the clock. The teams traded baskets to end the half, and the Herons took a slim 29-25 advantage into the break.
By the 16-minute mark in the second half, William Smith increased its lead to 33-27, topped by a Coney lay-up. Vassar answered with four straight points to cut its deficit to 35-33 with 13:09 left to play, but the Herons would not allow the Brewers to get closer. William Smith took a nine point lead with 5:42 on the clock, and never looked back.
William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, Feb. 7, when the Herons take on Rensselaer in Troy at 2 p.m.
