Box Score ELMIRA, N.Y.—The seventh-ranked Hobart hockey team broke or tied four school records in a 3-2 at No. 4 Elmira tonight. Junior forward
Nick DeCroo (Sarver, Pa.) scored all three Statesmen goals, while senior goalie
Keith Longo (Milford, Mass.) made 33 stops to earn the victory.
The first record to fall on the night was the consecutive scoreless minutes mark. Longo bested his own mark set three seasons ago (180:24) with a scoreless first period. The streak was halted 3:36 into the second period when Elmira (14-5-2, 7-2-2) opened the night's scoring on a goal by Kevin Willer. Longo's new record stands at 190:38.
Four minutes after the Soaring Eagles scored, DeCroo poked home a rebound for Hobart's first goal of the night on the power play. Elmira went back in front at the 10:51 mark on a blistering one-timer by Willer.
Again, the advantage was short-lived and wiped out by Statesmen special teams. Unlike the first time, DeCroo scored his second short-handed at the 10:51 mark. Junior forward
Bobby Cahill (Farmington Hills, Mich.) skated in on the left of Elmira goalie Casey Tuttle and sent a crosse crease pass to DeCroo, who tied the game with his team-leading 16th goal of the year.
Longo came under heavy pressure in the first and second periods, making 12 saves in the first period and 14 more in the second, but DeCroo's shortie appeared to take the wind out of Elmira's sail.
DeCroo's final tally came 4:04 into the third period, tying the Hobart single game record for goals. It was assisted by Cahill and sophomore forward Thomas Capalbo (Mamaroneck, N.Y.). The tally, and 16 minutes of strong defense, ensured Longo would get his 14th win of the season, tying the mark he shares with Adam Lavelle.
Elmira pulled Tuttle with less than two minutes remaining, but got whistled for a tripping penalty at the 18:46 mark forcing his return.
With the win, Hobart moves into a tie with Elmira for first place in the conference, while extending the Statesmen's winning streak to a record-matching eight straight.
Hobart will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Feb. 13, when the Statesmen host Neumann in another ECAC West match up.
