The sixth-ranked Hobart College hockey team will travel to fourth-ranked Amherst for the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal round on Sat., March 14. The Statesmen carry a 20-6-2 overall record into their fourth NCAA quarterfinal appearance, while the Lord Jeffs hold a 22-4-1 mark on the season. Faceoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.

Tickets will be available at the door, and will cost $5 for general admission and $3 for students with a valid ID. Fans unable to make it to Orr Rink on Saturday can listen live on WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3), or watch online with live streaming video, courtesy of Amherst College.

In the first round on Wednesday night, Hobart blanked Nichols 3-0, marking the second NCAA Tournament victory and first postseason shutout for the Statesmen. The shutout was the third of the year for senior goaltender Keith Longo (Milford, Mass.), which tied his own program season record. Longo collected 35 saves on the night, pushing his season total to a record-breaking 817. He now holds every career and season goalie record, and is the only Hobart netminder to stop more than 800 shots in a season.

Eight different Statesmen registered a point in the victory over the Bison. Senior defensemen Ryan Adler (Piscataway, N.J.) and Bryant Harris (Plainfield, N.H.), and junior forward Gregory Alberti (Bernardsville, N.J.) were responsible for the goals.

Amherst hosted Babson in the first round, and picked up the program's first NCAA Tournament win by defeating the Beavers 4-1. Senior Jeff Landers paces the Lord Jeffs with a team-high 41 points, including a team-best 32 assists. Senior Brendan Powers has netted a team-high 12 goals (23 points), while junior Ted Vickers has tallied 11 (22). Sophomores Cole Anderson (10-3-1, 1.49 GAA, .954 Sv%, 1 SO) and Jonathan La Rose (12-1-0, 1.39 GAA, .956 Sv%, 3 SO) have split time between the pipes for Amherst. La Rose recorded the win over Babson with 48 saves.

Hobart and Amherst have met three times since 1999. The Statesmen hold a 2-1-0 advantage, and both wins came under the guidance of Head Coach Mark Taylor, who arrived at Hobart in 2000. The Statesmen fell to the Lord Jeffs 3-2 in 1999, before defeating them 5-2 in 2004 and 4-2 in 2005.
