Box Score PITTSFORD, N.Y.—The fourth-ranked William Smith College soccer team opened the 2009 season with a 1-0 victory over Nazareth tonight at Golden Flyer Stadium. The Herons' record now stands at 1-0-0 overall, while the Golden Flyers move to 0-1-0.

William Smith directed play for the majority of the game. The Herons held a 19-10 advantage in shots, and a 5-1 edge in corner kick opportunities.

Amanda Davis collected six saves for her first shutout of the year, including a shot in the 89th minute from Nazareth first-year Meagan Rivera. Junior Hillary Simon stopped eight shots for the Golden Flyers.
The Herons will be back in action Sept. 5, when they take on 10th-ranked Lynchburg on Day 1 of the Johns Hopkins Tournament at 2:30 p.m.
