Herons bounce back into top-5

The William Smith College soccer team bounced back into the top-5 in the nation today, up to No. 5, according to the latest National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) poll. Previously ninth, the Herons moved up after defeating then fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins 1-0 and Centenary 5-0 over the weekend. William Smith continues to be the No. 1 team in the East Region.

The Herons are led by junior BreLynn Nasypany and first-year Renee Jensen, who both have two goals and two assists on the season. Senior Katelyn Tyson is close behind with two tallies of her own.

Against the Blue Jays on Saturday, Jensen set up Tyson in the 15th minute for the lone score. The following day vs. the Cyclones, Jensen assisted on the game-winning goal again, this time finding sophomore Chelsea England for the tally, and netted a goal of her own. Jensen was tabbed the Liberty League's Co-Rookie of the Week for her performance.

First-years Whitney Frary and Morgan Gibeault each recorded their first collegiate goals in the Herons' win over Centenary.

William Smith, also ranked 10th in the D3Soccer.com weekly poll, will be back in action on Sept. 17, when the Herons host Rochester at 4:30 p.m. Fans unable to make it to Cozzens Field can listen to the game live on WHWS-FM (105.7), or follow along online with live stats at www.HWSAthletics.com.
