#4 Statesmen, #20 Yellowjackets play to scoreless draw

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The fourth-ranked Hobart College soccer team tied 20th-ranked Rochester 0-0 in double-overtime this afternoon on Cozzens Field. The Statesmen move to 5-0-1 overall, while the Yellowjackets now stand at 4-0-2 on the season.

Despite being outshot 8-4 on goal, Hobart had the best scoring opportunity of the match. In the 51st minute, sophomore Evan Grey headed the ball on net, and it hit the bottom of the crossbar. The Statesmen thought they had scored, but the goal was called back by the officials.

In the second overtime period, both teams had chances to end the game. With 5 minutes, 40 seconds to play, Yellowjacket Phil Proud found Jimmy Parrinello cutting to goal, but sophomore Statesmen goalie Charlie Hale came out to smother the attempt.

Hobart had its turn later in the stanza, after a Rochester foul. Sophomore Jhojan Restrepo booted the free kick toward the goal, on track for the head of first-year Alex Kittelberger, but a Yellowjacket defender headed the ball away before Kittelberger could take a shot.

The Statesmen nearly capitalized on their first shot on goal of the match. In the 27th minute, sophomore Caetano Sanchez found classmate Tommy Hayes for a breakaway. Hayes' one-on-one shot with Rochester keeper Michael Peacock was stopped by a great diving save.

Hale finished with eight saves for Hobart, five of those coming in the final 25 minutes of regulation, while Peacock recorded four stops for the Yellowjackets.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Sept. 25, when they host Vassar for their first Liberty League contest of the season at 4 p.m.
