Box Score CANTON, N.Y.—The William Smith field hockey team saw St. Lawrence score twice in the final 16 minutes as the Saints stole a 4-3 Liberty League victory this afternoon. The Herons fall to 6-2 overall, 0-2 in the conference, while SLU improves to 6-1, 2-0.
Taylor Vogt opened the scoring for the Saints, batting in a rebound in the 12th minute of play. The Herons equalized in the 14th minutes when first-year
Annie Kietzman ripped a shot from the top of the circle for her sixth goal of the season. St. Lawrence carried a 2-1 lead into halftime when Brooke Maloney set up Joss-Elyse Smith's marker in the 34th minute.
William Smith enjoyed a 10-9 advantage in shots in the opening 35 minutes (27-19 for the match) and a 4-1 edge in penalty corners (16-5).
The Herons equalized in the 40th minute. This time Kietzman assisted on junior
Emily Atwan's eighth goal of the year. William Smith seized the lead in the 54th minute when sophomore
Kiersten Hamilton finished a feed from Atwan.
In the 55th minute, St. Lawrence knotted the match at 3-all when Maloney again set up a Smith tally. The Saints went back in front on Emily Riley's unassisted goal in the 67th minute.
SLU goalie Emilie Lannamann made 10 saves in the victory, while first-year
Taryn Little posted 11 stops for the Herons.
William Smith is back in action at 7 p.m. on Sept. 30, when the Herons visit Rochester.
