Whitney Frary led the Heron offense with a goal and an assist as the fifth-ranked William Smith College soccer team defeated Rensselaer 2-0 this afternoon in Liberty League action on Renwyck Field. The Herons improved to 6-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the conference, while the Engineers drop to 3-6-1 on the season and 0-2-0 in the Liberty League.
William Smith got on the board early, in the 15th minute. After a Frary corner kick, sophomore
Kate Redmond took a high shot that went over the head of RPI goalie Melissa Pinsonneault and into the net. The tally was Redmond's first of the season.
Frary put the Herons up 2-0 in the 89th minute, with her second goal of the year. From the left side of the goal, she dribbled the ball in and sent a shot that again went over the head of Pinsonneault.

Amanda Davis collected three saves, while Pinsonneault finished with four stops for the hosts.
The Herons outshot Rensselaer 12-8, and held a slight 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
William Smith will travel to Ithaca for a non-league contest on Sept. 30 at 4 p.m.
