Box Score PITTSFORD, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team opened the 2009 season with a 3-0 victory over RIT this afternoon, on Day 1 of the Doug May Classic hosted by Nazareth. The 12th-ranked Statesmen move to 1-0-0 on the season, while the Tigers slip to 1-1-0 overall.
Sophomore midfielder
Michael Moulton scored two goals to lead the Hobart offense. He netted his first goal of the day early in the first half, just 16 minutes, 23 seconds into the match. First-year midfielder
Will Abbott picked up the assist. He sent a pass across the front of the goal that found Moulton wide open on the right side.
In the 57th minute, Moulton tallied his second goal, giving Hobart a 2-0 advantage. This time, it was first-year midfielder
Reuben Burk who recorded the helper.
Sophomore midfielder
Evan Grey got in on the scoring action in the 71st minute, lofting a shot over the head of RIT goalie Bora Turgut to put the Statesmen up 3-0.
Hobart commanded play for the majority of the match, outshooting the Tigers 23-12, including 13-5 in the first half.
In goal for the Statesmen was sophomore
Charlie Hale, who collected six saves en route to his first career shutout, including four in the last 19 minutes of action. Turgut finished with nine saves for RIT.
Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Sept. 6, when they take on tournament host Nazareth at 1:30 p.m.
