Box Score ASTON, Pa.—The Hobart College hockey team defeated Neumann 3-2 tonight in an ECAC West contest at Ice Works Arena. The Statesmen improve to 9-8-2 overall and 5-3-1 in the league, while the Knights slip to 9-8-2 on the season and 2-5-2 in the conference.
Sophomore
Rick Longobardi netted the first goal of the game six minutes, 52 seconds into the first period to give Hobart an early 1-0 lead. The unassisted goal marked Longobardi's third tally of the season.
Neumann's Marlon Gardner capitalized on a power play opportunity 6:05 into the second period to even the game at 1-all, but 11 seconds later, junior Statesmen
Matthew Wallace answered with a shorthanded goal to put the visitors back in front, 2-1. Wallace's team-leading 11th tally of the year was set up by junior
Josh Taylor.
Senior
Blake Bonham extended Hobart's lead to 3-1 with a power-play score in the 12th minute of the second stanza, marking his fifth goal of the winter. Seniors
Christopher Bower and
Aleksey Koval recorded the assists.
The Knights cut their deficit to one in the eighth minute of the final period, thanks to a goal from Jeffery Bienvenue, but the Statesmen held their ground for the remainder of the contest to make their lead stand up.
Hobart first-year
Nick Broadwater registered 38 saves ini goal for the win, while Ross MacKinnon stopped 19 shots for Neumann.
The Knights earned a 40-22 advantage in shots, and converted 1-of-6 power play opportunities. The Statesmen were 1-for-5 on the power play.
