St. Lawrence tops Hobart 68-57

Box Score CANTON, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team had an off night in the North Country as St. Lawrence posted a 68-57 Liberty League win tonight. The win raises the Saints record to 8-9, 3-2 in the conference, while the Statesmen fall to 9-8, 2-4.

Hobart shot below its season average connecting on just 36.1 percent from the floor and only 53.3 percent from the line. St. Lawrence shot 38.1 percent from the floor and 72.7 percent from the free throw line. The Saints also enjoyed a 45-39 advantage on the glass, while the Statesmen committed three more turnovers than their hosts (18-15).

Matt Pebole and Stefan Thompson netted 14 points apiece for Hobart. Pebole also added a team-high seven rebounds.

Garrett Sharlow's 17-point, 10-rebound effort paced St. Lawrence. Terry Parham and Ralph Temgoua both chipped in 11 points, while Josh Sharlow added nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Pebole scored the Statesmen's first points to tie the game 2-2 and Adam Salzmann (4 pts, 4 rebs) followed with a tip-in to give Hobart its only lead of the contest, 4-2.

Five minutes later, Mark Bruce (5 pts, 4 rebs, 4 assts) drained a three to cut the Saints lead to 14-13, but the home team struck back with a 12-2 run to inflate its lead to 11. St. Lawrence took a 32-24 lead into halftime.

Thompson scored the first points of the second half, but eight unanswered points by the Saints pushed their lead into double figures for good. St. Lawrence led by as many as 20 down the stretch. Hobart scored the final seven points to trim the final margin to 11.

Hobart will be back in action on Jan. 30, when the Statesmen visit Clarkson (10-6, 4-2). Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. Fans can follow the action online with Live Stats.
