Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College hockey team defeated Brockport 4-2 in a non-league contest tonight at The Cooler. The Statesmen improve to 6-6-2 overall, while the Golden Eagles slip to 6-7-0 on the season.
Hobart opened the scoring 14 minutes, 7 seconds into the game. First-year
Frank Salituro connected for his first collegiate goal to put the Statesmen up 1-0. Seniors
Christopher Bower and
Gregory Alberti recorded the assists.
Hobart built upon its lead in the second stanza. Sophomore
Greg Ciciola lit the lamp in the eighth minute, set up by first-year
Bobby Hannah and senior
Bryant Harris. In the 13th minute, junior
Matthew Wallace put the hosts up by three with an unassisted tally, his team-leading 10th of the season.
The Statesmen held off a third period run by the Golden Eagles. Brockport put their first point on the board at the 6:08 mark of the stanza, thanks to a power-play goal by Justin Noble. Less than two minutes later, the Golden Eagles had cut their deficit to one, 3-2, following a power-play tally from Jason Gorrie.
Brockport pulled goalie Todd Sheridan in the final minutes of regulation in an effort to tie the game, but Hobart senior
Blake Bonham got loose on a breakaway and scored on the empty net to put the game out of reach.
First-year Statesmen goalie
Nick Broadwater collected 32 saves, while Sheridan finished with 35.
Hobart was 1-for-5 on power play opportunities, while the Golden Eagles were 2-for-6.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Jan. 9, when they travel to Curry for a non-league contest at 4:35 p.m.
