GENEVA, N.Y.—The Ithaca College men's soccer team scored in the 13th minute to defeat Hobart College 1-0 in a non-league game played at Cozzens Field this afternoon. The Bombers improve their record to 3-6-3, while the Statesmen are now 6-5-2 overall.
Senior Jeff Geyer scored his first goal of the season 12 minutes, 30 seconds into the game. He fired a shot from five yards out into the left side of the goal, and it turned out to be all the Bombers would need to come away with the win.
Both teams recorded a total of 12 shots in the contest. Hobart held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks, but could not find the game-tying goal.
The Statesmen had a few opportunities to score late in the game. With 11:25 left, sophomore
Will Abbott took a shot from 16 yards out that went just left of the goal. With 10:34 on the clock, junior
Tony Yeboah got a shot off from right in front of the goal, but Ithaca's senior goalie Justin Parlapiano was there to make a big save. Junior
Lukas Petersen had a chance to tie the game with 8:04 remaining. He fired a shot from about 35 yards out, but Parlapiano made a diving save.
Parlapiano finished with four saves. Junior
Charlie Hale played all 90 minutes in goal for Hobart and stopped five shots.
The Statesmen will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 16, when they travel to play another non-league game at Oneonta at 2 p.m.
