GENEVA, N.Y.—
The duo of sophomore Whitney Frary and senior BreLynn Nasypany led the No. 11 William Smith soccer team to a 2-0 win over Oneonta in a non-league match played at Cozzens Field this afternoon. Frary earned two assists and Nasypany scored both goals in the win.

The Herons improve to 10-2-2 overall, and the Red Dragons are now 10-4-1. William Smith snapped Oneonta's three game win-streak and improved their all-time record against the Red Dragons to 6-2-1.

Nasypany broke through in the 33rd minute to give the Herons a 1-0 lead. Frary took a free kick for William Smith and sent a line drive into the box. Nasypany charged at the ball, and her diving header put the ball just out of reach of Oneonta junior goalie Amy Lusby. It was Frary's first assist of the season.

In the 54th minute, Frary again found Nasypany to put William Smith up 2-0. Frary was inside the box and sent a short pass ahead to the left post. Nasypany collected the pass and placed a shot just into the right corner of the goal. She leads the Herons with 14 goals this season.

With her two goals today, Nasypany is now third on the William Smith program list with 49 career goals. She also moved past Staci Donald '97 into second place all-time with 123 career points.

Oneonta had a couple chances to get on the scoreboard. The Red Dragons had an opportunity to tie the game in the 43rd minute, junior Dana DeSimone fired a shot on goal that junior goalie Amanda Davis was able to get a hand on as the ball banged off the crossbar. Oneonta had another chance in the 70th minute, when first-year Kori Hamm drilled a shot that Davis jumped to save as it also went off the crossbar.

Davis finished with six saves in goal for the Herons and earned her fifth shutout of the season. Lusby also recorded six saves for the Red Dragons. William Smith enjoyed a 19-11 advantage in shots. Oneonta held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Herons return to action on Oct. 23, when they travel to St. Lawrence for a Liberty League game beginning at 3 p.m.
