GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith, led by first-year
Maggie Nash, won the Cross Country Only Conference Championship at Seneca Lake State Park today. She placed third out of 104 runners as the Herons earned a four-point victory over defending champion Daemen.
Nash negotiated the 5-kilometer course in 20 minutes, 23 seconds, more than a minute behind the leaders and nearly 30 seconds ahead of the fourth place runner. D'Youville's Anya Bogdonets won the individual title in a championship record time of 19:09, 13 seconds ahead of Keuka's Chelsea Socha.
First-year KC Cronmiller was the second Heron across the finishing line, logging a time of 21:02 to take eighth place. First-year
Meghan Gaucher was 12th in 21:28, while sophomore
Kelly Watters was 14th in 21:38. Junior
Molly Sharry rounded out William Smith's team score, taking 45th in 23:13.
The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 23, when they host the Heron Invitational at Seneca Lake State Park.
