FREDONIA, N.Y.—The Hobart soccer team defeated Fredonia State 2-1 in non-conference action this afternoon. The Statesmen got the game-winning goal from first-year striker Shayan Mosavi in the 40th minute.
Hobart (6-2-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute on a goal by sophomore midfielder

Caetano Sanchez was credited with an assist on the strike.
The Blue Devils (4-7-0) countered in the 20th minute when senior John Grabowski set up a goal by classmate Stephen Ahern.
Mosavi put the Statesmen back in front for good just before halftime.
Hobart had a 23-14 advantage in shots in a game played through a steady rain. Junior goalie
Charlie Hale made four saves to earn the win, while Fredonia State first-year Kevin Marsh turned back seven shots.
The Blue Devils had an 8-7 edge in corner kicks.
The Statesmen will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, when they visit Vassar for a Liberty League showdown.
