Geneseo upends William Smith 2-1

Box Score

GENEVA, N.Y.—
The Geneseo field hockey team pushed its winning streak to 15 straight games with a 2-1 victory over William Smith on McCooey Field this afternoon. The victory pushes the Blue Knights' record to 16-1, while the Herons slip to 11-7.

Geneseo opened the scoring in the 24th minute, when senior Stephanie Maisonet got behind the William Smith defense. Working a two-on-one against Heron senior goalie Chelsea Snyder, Maisonet passed off to first-year Kayla DeAngelis, who sticked home her fourth goal of the season.

Despite being outshot 7-3 in the first half, the Blue Knights carried a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Geneseo added to its advantage in the 51st minute when Maisonet scored off an assist from senior Erin Zalewski.

William Smith wasn't able to solve the Geneseo defense until the match's final minute. Senior Emily Atwan finished a cross from sophomore Annie Kietzman to make it a one-goal game with 17 seconds remaining.

In goal, sophomore Caitlyn Dowell earned the win with two saves, while Snyder finished with one stop.

The Herons will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 3, when they travel to Hamilton for a Liberty League Tournament semifinal. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
