Statesmen fall to #14 Geneseo

GENEVA, N.Y.—
The Hobart hockey team rallied to score two goals in the third period, but the Statesmen dropped a non-conference game 5-2 to 14th-ranked Geneseo tonight at The Cooler. Hobart is now 2-3-1 overall, and the Blue Knights improve to 6-1-2 this season.

Junior David Arduin led Geneseo with two goals, and junior Jake Yard earned two assists. Hobart senior Matthew Wallace registered two assists.

After a scoreless first period, Arduin put Geneseo on the scoreboard 24 seconds into the second period. Senior Trevor Elliott scored his first goal of the season to put the Blue Knights up 2-0 just before the end of the second period.

Geneseo came out and scored two goals early in the third period to take a 4-0 lead. Just 10 seconds into the final period, Arduin found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season. Sophomore Corbin Rosmarin scored a power-play goal 2:32 in. It was his first goal of the season.

Sophomore Ryan Corcoran broke through for the Statesmen 3:12 in. He found the back of the net off an assist from Wallace. It was Corcoran's first goal this year. Junior Gregory Ciciola cut Hobart's deficit to two 2:28 seconds later. Senior Patrick Moriarty and Wallace were credited with the assists. Ciciola is now tied with Wallace to lead the Statesmen with five goals this season.

Hobart pulled sophomore goalie Nick Broadwater with 1:45 left in regulation. Senior Andrew Rygiel added an empty net goal for the final margin. Broadwater finished with 27 saves. Blue Knights' junior goalie Cory Gershon turned aside 38 shots. The Statesmen held a 40-32 advantage in shots and went 0-for-6 on the power play. Geneseo was 2-for-6 on the power play.

Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 4, when the Statesmen travel to play another non-conference game at Potsdam beginning at 7 p.m.
