Heron soccer to host first, second rounds of NCAA Tournament

William Smith College will host the first and second rounds of the 2010 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament this weekend, Nov. 13-14. The 10th-ranked Herons will take on Keuka College at 11 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the University of Scranton playing Plattsburgh State at 1:30 p.m. The winners will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. to play for a spot in the third round.

All three matches will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7) and have live stats available at www.hwsathletics.com. Ticket prices are $6 for general admission, $3 for senior citizens, students, and military personnel with a valid ID, and $2 for children ages 3-12. Children 2 and under are free.

The Herons earned the Liberty League's automatic bid into the 2010 NCAA Tournament after winning their fourth straight conference championship. William Smith defeated Skidmore 2-1 in the semifinal round, and edged Vassar 4-3 in penalty kicks in the championship game. The Herons have a 14-2-3 overall record going into their 24th consecutive postseason appearance and 21st NCAA Tournament berth.
