GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College hockey team played through overtime to a 2-2 tie with Cortland in a non-conference game tonight at The Cooler. The Statesmen are now 0-2-1, and the Red Dragons are 2-2-1 this season.
Hobart struck first with a goal 9 minutes, 59 seconds into the first period. After a quick dump in off of a faceoff, senior
Tommy Capalbo sent a pass to sophomore
Mike White who was waiting on the point. White sent a one-timer into the top corner of the net for his first goal of the season.
Cortland tied the game at one 4:52 into the second period. Junior Ryan Durocher dumped the puck in for the Red Dragons. Junior Joey Christiano recovered, and sent a pass to sophomore Michael Lysyj who found the back of the net for his second goal this year.
The Statesmen took back the lead when junior
Greg Ciciola scored a power-play goal 12:08 into the third. Senior
Patrick Moriarty fired a shot on goal that bounced off the Cortland goalie's pads. Ciciola then sent the rebound into the back of the goal. Sophomore
Brad Richard was also credited with an assist.
The Red Dragons tied the game at two scoring with just 1:28 left in regulation. Christiano scored his second goal of the season when his shot from the top of the circle dribbled into the goal.
Cortland took five shots in the overtime period, while Hobart recorded four, but neither team could find the game-winner. The Red Dragons held a slight, 41-39 edge in total shots. The Statesmen were 1-for-6 on the power play, and Cortland went 0-for-7.
Sophomore
Nick Broadwater finished with 39 saves in goal for Hobart. Cortland junior goalie Brittan Kulman posted 37 saves.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 13, when they travel to Neumann for another non-conference game beginning at 7 p.m.
