Hobart hockey wraps up 2010 in Oswego tourney

On Thursday, Dec. 30, the Hobart hockey team will battle the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the first game of the 2010 Pathfinder Bank Oswego Hockey Classic. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Campus Center Ice Arena.

The Statesmen are 5-3-1 and coming off a 5-2 win over top-ranked Oswego in Geneva on Dec. 11. Senior Matt Wallace (7-5) and junior Gregory Ciciola (5-7) pace the offense with 12 points apiece. Sophomore goalie Nick Broadwater anchors the defense. He has played every minute this season and sports a 2.33 GAA and a .927 save percentage.

The Pointers (5-8-0) snapped a seven-game slide with a 3-2 win over UW-Eau Claire on Dec. 11. Harrison Niemann leads a balanced scoring effort with nine points on four goals and five assists. Nick Graves has played the lion's share of minutes in goal, logging a 5-6-0 record with a 2.34 GAA and a .912 save percentage.

Hobart and UW-Stevens Point will be squaring off for the first time.

In the other first round game, the host Lakers (12-1-0) will face Hamilton (4-3-0) at 7 p.m.
