OSWEGO, N.Y. - After trailing 2-1 at the end of the first period, the Hobart hockey team responded with three second-period goals to secure a win over the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point 6-3 in the first game of the PathFinder Bank/Oswego Hockey Classic this afternoon.
Senior
Matthew Wallace recorded two goals, including a short-handed tally late in the third period to give the Statesmen a two-goal lead. The short-handed goal was the eighth of his career and tied the Hobart record set by
Nick DeCroo '10. The Statesmen improved to 6-3-1 overall and will face the winner of Oswego State/Hamilton on Friday in Oswego. The Pointers fell to 5-9-0 overall. This win marks the 150th for Hobart Head Coach
Mark Taylor. His record now stands at 150-99-28.
In addition to Wallace, the Statesmen had six skaters with multi-point games for a balanced scoring attack. Senior

Tommy Fiorentino, and sophomore David Stevens each tallied one goal and one assist.
The Pointers jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 14 seconds into the game on a Nic Polaski goal. Wallace tied up the game with his eighth goal of the season on a power play off assists from Moriarty and senior
Tommy Capalbo. Jake Skojdt took back the lead for Wisconsin-Stevens Point on a power play of their own.
The Statesmen took control in the second period. Capalbo started the rally with his second goal of the season just 55 seconds in. Bower and Fiorentino earned the assists. Then Fiorentino registered his third goal this year to put Hobart up 3-2. With only 39 seconds left in the period, Corcoran capitalized on a power-play opportunity for his fourth goal this season.
The Pointers cut their deficit to one when Donnie Hallmark scored just 48 seconds into the final stanza. Wallace scored his short-handed goal 16:19 into the period, and Stevens recorded his second goal of the season with 1:04 left in regulation for the final margin.
Special teams played a big role in the contest as Hobart went 2-for-8 with the extra skater and posted a short-handed goal, and the Pointers went 1-for-6. The Statesmen out-shot Wisconsin-Stevens Point 38-27.

Nick Broadwater finished with 24 saves in goal for Hobart, while the Pointers goalie Nick Graves tallied 32 saves.
