Statesmen top Potsdam 4-1

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The Hobart hockey team rallied to score two goals in both the second and the third periods for a 4-1 win over Potsdam in a non-conference game played tonight at the Bears' Maxcy Hall. With the win, the Statesmen improve to 3-3-1 overall, and Potsdam is now 3-7 this season.

The Bears took the lead early, when first-year Nick Averinos scored a power-play goal just 3 minutes, 25 seconds into the first period. First-year Brandon Couto and junior Matt Rhymer were credited with assists.

The Statesmen rallied to take control in the second period. Sophomore Cam Miller found the back of the net 9:46 into the second to tie the game at one. Sophomore Bobby Hannah and senior Danny Organ earned the assists. Miller struck again to give Hobart the lead with six seconds left in the second stanza, and the Statesmen never looked back. Hannah and Organ once again were credited with assists. It was Miller's second goal this season.

At 9:37 into the third period, senior Matthew Wallace added to Hobart's lead. After passes from junior Gregory Ciciola and senior Patrick Moriarty, Wallace found the back of the net to make the score 3-1. Wallace leads the Statesmen with six goals this year.

First-year Tommy Fiorentino scored an empty net goal with 2:11 left in regulation for the final margin. Sophomore Harry Radovich earned the assist. It was Fiorentino's first collegiate goal.

Sophomore goalie Nick Broadwater recorded 30 saves in goal for Hobart. Potsdam's junior goalie Trevor O'Neill turned aside 36 shots. The Statesmen held a 40-31 advantage in shots. Hobart went 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Bears were 1-for-5.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 8, when they host No. 15 Buffalo State for another non-conference game beginning at 7 p.m.
