Respect The Cooler t-shirts go on sale Wednesday

The Hobart hockey team will be selling "Respect The Cooler" t-shirts at its home games this week. The Statesmen will host Buffalo State on Wednesday, Dec. 8 and Oswego State on Saturday, Dec. 11.

The short sleeve tees, which can be purchased for $10, pay homage to The Cooler, the nickname Hobart Head Coach Mark Taylor gave to the former open-air Geneva Recreation Complex. Since Taylor took the reins prior to the 2000-01 season, the Statesmen are 75-37-13 (.652) at home.

Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for general admission, $2 for children under 12. HWS students, faculty, and staff are admitted free with a valid HWS ID.

All proceeds from the t-shirt sale will go to the charity efforts of Hockey Helpers, Hobart's community outreach group.

Hobart is 3-3-1 this season. Senior forward Matthew Wallace and junior forward Gregory Ciciola share the team lead with 11 points each. Wallace has netted a team-high six goals, including four on the power play. Senior forward Patrick Moriarty is close behind with 10 points, including a team-high nine assists. In goal, sophomore Nick Broadwater has started all seven games, producing a .919 save percentage and a 2.71 goals against average.

The Bengals (6-3-2) are receiving votes in the latest USCHO.com poll. Buff State's offense is led by Trevor McKinney (7-8-15) and Nick Petriello (3-8-11). First-year goalie Kevin Carr is 5-3-2 with a .933 save percentage and a 2.46 GAA.

Under Taylor's leadership, the Statesmen at 12-2-2 against the Bengals, including a 4-1-1 mark over the past three seasons.

The Lakers (11-0) are the top-ranked team in the USCHO.com poll. Justin Fox (7-9-16) and Ian Boots (5-9-14)  lead Oswego in the scoring column. Junior goalie Paul Beckwith has started all 11 games, notching a .949 save percentage and a 1.37 GAA.

Hobart is 2-2-1 against the Lakers since the team's first met during the 2005-06 season.
