Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa.—The Hobart College hockey team scored five goals in the first period to spark a 9-2 victory over Lebanon Valley in ECAC West action tonight. Behind junior
Matthew Wallace's one-goal, four-assist effort, the Statesmen improve to 11-9-2 overall and 7-4-1 in the conference.
Wallace's four assists and five points tie the Hobart game records in both categories. He is the second Statesmen to total five points in game this winter; first-year
Chris Cannizzaro notched three goals and two helpers in a win over the Flying Dutchmen back on Nov. 13, 2009.
In addition to Wallace's five points, senior
Jordan Zitoun and sophomore Gregory Ciciola each added two goals, while first-year
Bobby Hannah, sophomore
Rick Longobardi and senior
Aleksey Koval tallied a goal and a helper apiece.
Ciciola netted the first two goals to start the Statesmen scoring. He tallied in the seventh and 12th minutes, with Wallace assisting on both. Junior
Patrick Moriarty and senior
Drew Wadsworth also recorded helpers.
Zitoun notched his first tally of the night in the 12th minute as well, while Wallace followed with his third short-handed goal of the season at the 14 minute mark, unassisted. Lebanon Valley (0-23-0, 0-13-0) put its first point on the board a few minutes later, thanks to Brad Surdam, but Longobardi would end the period with his fourth goal of the year to put Hobart up 5-1.
After a scoreless second period, the Flying Dutchmen tallied first in the third stanza on a goal from Brent Davis, but the Statesmen responded with four more of their own to put the contest out of reach. Senior
Blake Bonham set up Koval 6:32 into the period, followed by a power-play score from Zitoun, set up by Wallace and Moriarty in the ninth minute. Junior
Christopher Bower got in on the scoring on a power-play in the 10th minute, while Hannah wrapped things up in the 11th with Hobart's final goal. Bonham and junior
Tommy Capalbo both finished with two assists, and first-years
Cam Miller and
Mike White each chipped in one helper.
The Statesmen outshot the Flying Dutchmen 43-18, and went 2-for-4 on power-play chances. LVC was 0-for-4.
Hobart first-year goaltender Martin Ausserhofer earned his second win of the season, picking up 16 saves. Matthew Turner and Rich Drazin combined for 34 saves in net for Lebanon Valley.
The Statesmen and Flying Dutchmen will faceoff again tomorrow, Feb. 13, at 3 p.m.
