BreLynn Nasypany scored two goals in the first half and earned an assist to lead No. 16 William Smith to a 4-2 win over host Cortland in the non-conference season opener for both teams.
Nasypany scored the game's first goal 22 minutes, 56 seconds in. Sophomore Emily D'Addario sent a long pass ahead to Nasypany who fired a shot inside the right post to put the Herons (1-0 overall) up 1-0. Renee Jensen capitalized on a penalty kick to give the Herons a 3-0 lead. Cortland (0-1) got on the scoreboard at 63:20, when senior Carly Williams one-timed a pass from junior Jackie De Luise to make the score 3-1. Amanda Davis tallied four saves in goal for William Smith. Cortland's senior goalie Pam Monnier recorded seven saves.
The Herons held a 25-18 advantage in shots. Each team recorded four corner kicks. William Smith returns to action on Sept. 4 with another non-conference game at Nazareth.
