CORTLAND, N.Y.—Senior BreLynn Nasypany scored two goals in the first half and earned an assist to lead No. 16 William Smith to a 4-2 win over host Cortland in the non-conference season opener for both teams.

Nasypany scored the game's first goal 22 minutes, 56 seconds in. Sophomore Emily D'Addario sent a long pass ahead to Nasypany who fired a shot inside the right post to put the Herons (1-0 overall) up 1-0. At the 42:56 mark, Nasypany sent another shot inside the right corner of the goal to put William Smith up by two. This time the pass came from junior Mary Jameson.

In the 59th minute, sophomore Renee Jensen capitalized on a penalty kick to give the Herons a 3-0 lead. Cortland (0-1) got on the scoreboard at 63:20, when senior Carly Williams one-timed a pass from junior Jackie De Luise to make the score 3-1. In the 78th minute, sophomore Stacey Wood one-timed the rebound from a shot by senior Maura Martin to cut the Red Dragon's deficit to one. With 8:35 left in the game, sophomore Morgan Gibeault collected the rebound from a shot by BreLynn Nasypany, and found the back of the net.

Junior Amanda Davis tallied four saves in goal for William Smith. Cortland's senior goalie Pam Monnier recorded seven saves.

The Herons held a 25-18 advantage in shots. Each team recorded four corner kicks. William Smith returns to action on Sept. 4 with another non-conference game at Nazareth.
