Statesmen top Cardinals 3-0

Junior Tony Yeboah scored two goals to lead the No. 17 Hobart College soccer team to a 3-0 win over host St. John Fisher in a non-conference game played at Growney Stadium tonight. The Statesmen improve to 4-1-0, while the Cardinals (0-4-1) drop their third straight game.

Yeboah scored the first goal of the game and his first goal of the season just 3 minutes, 18 seconds in. Junior Tommy Hayes was credited with the assist. Junior Andrew Steates scored an unassisted goal in the 37th minute to put Hobart up 2-0. It was his first goal of the season. Four minutes, 19 seconds into the second half, senior Justin Dotzman sent a crossing pass from the right side to Yeboah who was there to send a header into the back of the net for the final margin.

Junior Charlie Hale played all 90 minutes in goal for the Statesmen, and recorded five saves. He earned his first shutout of the season. St. John Fisher's senior goalkeeper Robert Weigand started, and recorded two saves. First-year Kyle Metcalfe came in to relieve him, and turned aside four shots. Hobart outshot St. John Fisher, 15-6. Both teams recorded two corner kicks.

The Statesmen return to action on Sept. 18, when they play another non-conference game at Rochester beginning at 7 p.m.
