SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—Sophomore
Emily Harris scored her first goal of the season in the 89th minute to lead the sixth-ranked William Smith soccer team to a 2-1 win over host Union College in a Liberty League game this afternoon. The Herons improve their record to 7-1-1 and 1-0-1 in the league. Union is now 6-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in league play.

Whitney Frary scored her second goal in as many games, when she collected a loose ball right in front of the goal and fired a shot into the back of the net. It was her third goal this season.
Union answered a little over ten minutes later. First-year Melissa Mansfield sent a pass across the box to first-year Kelly McDonough who scored her first collegiate goal to tie the game at one.
Harris secured the win for William Smith when she sent a header into the back of the net with just 1:29 left in regulation. The Herons held an 8-7 edge in shots and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalie
Amanda Davis finished with three saves in all 90 minutes. Union's senior goalie Abby Stohler recorded two saves.
The Herons will return to action on Sept. 29, when they travel to Rochester for a non-conference game at 4:30 p.m.
