ROCHESTER, N.Y.—
The Rochester women's soccer team scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute to edge the No. 7 William Smith College Herons, 2-1 in a non-conference game this afternoon. The Herons are now 7-2-1, while the Yellowjackets improve to 6-2-1.

The Herons had a few scoring opportunities in the first half. Rochester's sophomore goalie Bridget Lang made a diving save in the 32nd minute off a hard-driven shot from junior Chelsea England to keep the score knotted at zero. The Yellowjackets withstood a flurry of offensive pressure by the Herons at the end of the first half, including four corner kicks in the last five minutes that culminated in a near score for sophomore Kelsey Hill in the 43rd minute. Hill headed the ball toward goal from the right post off a corner kick, but the ball was cleared off the line by a Yellowjacket defender.

Rochester took a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute. Senior Kirsten Ross broke the stalemate, knocking in a free kick on the left side of the pitch from 25 yards out. The goal was Ross's third of the season.

They Yellowjackets were able to withstand Heron pressure, led by leading goal-scorer senior BreLynn Nasypany, but finally succumbed in the 74th minute when Nasypany placed a cross from sophomore Renee Jensen past the Rochester goalie and into the top corner of the goal. The goal was Nasypany's ninth of the season. She now ranks fourth with 44 career goals and fourth with 111 career points.

Junior Ellen Coleman's diving shot on a breakaway slid into the left side of the goal to secure the win for Rochester. William Smith had a couple opportunities to tie the score with under 10 minutes left, including a point blank shot from five yards out by junior Jamie Sawyer that was stopped on the goal line by Yellowjacket midfielder senior Marissa Braverman.

Junior Amanda Davis finished with three saves in goal for William Smith. Lang also recorded three saves for Rochester. The Herons held an 11-9 advantage in shots and a 6-2 lead in corner kicks.

The Herons return to action on Oct. 2 when they host Hamilton for a Liberty League game at 2 p.m.
