ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The No. 16 William Smith soccer team defeated host Nazareth College 1-0 in a non-conference game played at Golden Flyer Stadium this afternoon. The Herons improve their overall record to 2-0, and the Golden Flyers are now 1-1.
With 6:14 left in the first half, senior
BreLynn Nasypany split the Nazareth defenders and then placed a shot inside the far left post. The unassisted goal was Nasypany's third this season.
The Herons had a number of opportunities to score, including a shot by sophomore
Renee Jensen from inside the 18 yard line that banged off the crossbar early in the second half. William Smith dominated in shots taking 13, while Nazareth recorded eight.
Junior
Amanda Davis earned her second win in goal, and made four saves. Nazareth's senior goalie Hillary Simon recorded five saves. William Smith held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Herons will play another non-conference game tomorrow, Sept. 5, against Colby-Sawyer in Rochester, N.Y. Nazareth will host Otterbein tomorrow.
