Statesmen cruise to 8-1 win over Curry

MILTON, MASS.—
The Hobart hockey team scored three goals in the second period, and added five more in the third period for an 8-1 victory over Curry in a non-conference game played this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen are now 10-4-1, and the Colonels are now 5-7-2.

Junior Gregory Ciciola and sophomore Harry Radovich each recorded three points in the game. Ciciola had a goal and two assists, while Radovich registered three helpers. Sophomore Cam Miller and senior Matthew Wallace scored two goals. Sophomore Bobby Hannah and sophomore Mike White each earned two assists, while senior Patrick Moriarty added a goal and an assist. Sophomore goalie Nick Broadwater finished with 35 saves in goal.

After a scoreless first period, the Statesmen scored three goals in 3 minutes, 17 seconds in the second stanza. Sophomore Brad Richard capitalized on a power-play opportunity 9:40 into the second stanza. It was Richard's fourth goal this season. At 10:47, Miller scored his first goal of the afternoon after passes from Hannah and White. Ciciola made it 3-0 with his seventh goal this year at 12:57.

Curry scored its lone goal with 3:27 remaining in the middle period, when Shane Geib found the back of the net to make it 3-1. Ryan Barlock and Michael Lopez registered the assists.

The Statesmen ran away with the game, tallying five goals in the final period. Just two minutes in, Miller scored his second goal of the game to put Hobart back up by three. It was his sixth goal of the year. First-year Brett Riley scored his first goal as a Statesman to make it 5-1. First-year Keith Clarke and first-year Tom Rush earned the assists. At 10:11, Wallace collected a pass from senior Josh Taylor and fired a shot past the Curry goaltender to put the Statesmen up by 5. Wallace scored again on a power play two minutes later to make it 7-1. Wallace leads the Statesmen with 12 goals this season. Moriarty recorded his second goal this year on a power play after a pass from senior Kyle Whitaker with just 2:55 remaining for the final margin.

Each team recorded 36 shots in the game. The Statesmen were 3-for-8 on the power play, while the Colonels were 0-for-7. Robert Dawson played the opening 43:34 in goal for Curry and made 16 saves. David Aman played the final 16:17 and stopped 12 shots.

The Statesmen return to action, tomorrow, Jan. 16, when they play another non-conference game at Nichols at 1:35 p.m.
