Hobart to play in holiday tournament, fundraise for Donate Life

The Hobart College hockey team will travel to Hyannis, Mass., to take part in the inaugural Cape Cod Lighthouse College Hockey Invitational Tournament. The Statesmen will begin the tournament taking on the host, Babson, on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 5 p.m.

The tournament will be played at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center on Nov. 26-27, and is sponsored by Donate Life America. Donate Life is a nationally recognized non-profit group devoted to increasing organ, eye and tissue donation.  The tournament will present spectators with the opportunity to register as a donor as well as learn more about organ, eye and tissue donation.

In conjunction with the tournament, Hobart Hockey Helpers are selling t-shirts and jerseys to raise money for Donate Life. Hobart Hockey Helpers t-shirts with the Donate Life logo will be sold for $10. Vintage game-worn jerseys will also be sold for $100. To reserve a shirt or purchase a jersey, please contact Patty Cala (cala@hws.edu) (jersey numbers cannot be guaranteed, but please include your preference in the email). Shirts and jerseys will be on sale at the tournament. All proceeds will be given to Donate Life.

Amherst and Salem State will play the other first round game at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The winning teams will play for the Lighthouse trophy on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 3 p.m. The consolation game will be played beforehand beginning at noon.

Senior Greg Ciciola leads the Statesmen and ranks seventh in the ECAC West with seven points. He leads Hobart and is tied in for third in the league with five assists. Junior Frank Salituro is right behind him, ranking eight in the conference, with six points. He is tied for fifth in the ECAC West with a team-high four goals, and has chipped in two assists. Junior Nick Broadwater has played all but one game in goal. He is sporting a .887 save percentage and a 3.22 goals against average. He has recorded one shutout this season.

Prior to taking on Williams tonight, Babson has a 2-2 overall record. Andrew Bonazza and Matt Furey share the team lead with four points. Furey has logged a team-high four assists. Bonazza and PT Donato lead the Beavers with two goals apiece. Zeke Testa has played the majority of minutes in goal. He has a 4.00 goals against average and an .891 save percentage.

Tournament tickets can be purchased at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center for $15 in advance and for $20 on game day. Individual day tickets will be sold for $12 at the gate. For more details please contact Ed Gallagher (Edward.m.gallagher@gmail.com) or call the HYCC (580-790-6345).
