The second-ranked William Smith will face top-ranked Messiah in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship. The Herons and Falcons will kick off at noon (11 a.m. CST) on Friday, Dec. 2 at Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio.
William Smith (20-0-1) enters the contest riding a 17-match winning streak. The Liberty League champion Herons boast the stingiest defense in the nation, having allowed just two goals in 1,910 minutes this season. Senior goalie
Amanda Davis leads the nation with a 0.098 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. First-year
Dineo Mmutla leads the offense with 12 goals and 28 points, while junior
Whitney Frary sports nine goals and a team-high six assists for 24 points.
Messiah (21-0-1) boasts a 19-match winning streak. The MAC Commonwealth Conference champion Falcons are second to the Herons in the nation in GAA (0.141) and have the fourth highest scoring offense (4.29 gpg). Junior Corrine Wulf has produced a team-high 21 goals and eight assists for a team-best 50 points. Senior Erin Hench has added 13 goals and a nation-high 18 assists for 44 points. In goal, senior Autumn Reilly is second in the natio in GAA (0.141) and third in save percentage (.914).
This will be the second meeting between the two soccer powerhouses this season. William Smith hosted Messiah in the first match of the annual
Heron Cup on Sept. 10. The scoreless draw is the lone blemish on both teams' schedule.
In the other semifinal, Ithaca (15-3-3) will take on No. 6 Wheaton (Ill.) (22-1-2) at 2:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. CST). The championship match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. CST) on Saturday, Dec. 3.
