Buffalo State comes from behind to top Hobart 3-1

BUFFALO, N.Y.—
The Buffalo State men's hockey team scored all three of their goals in the third period to rally to defeat Hobart 3-1 in a non-conference game played tonight at Buffalo's Ice Arena. The Bengals improved to 6-5-1 overall, and the Statesmen are now 5-5-0.

Hobart started off the scoring 6:12 into the first period. Junior Bobby Hannah scored his second goal of the season off an assist from first-year Ian Coleman. The Statesmen held off the Bengals for the remainder of the opening period and the entire second period.

Buffalo State came out strong in the final period. Drew Klin scored just 2:07 in to tie the game at one. Matt Bessing set up the play. Just 33 seconds later, Shane Avery scored his first goal of the season to give the Bengals their first lead of the contest. Trevor McKinney and Daniel Andersson recorded the assists. At 12:36 into the final period, Jim Durham found the back of the net for the final margin. McKinney and Mike Zannella were credited with the assists.

Hobart pulled goalie junior Marty Ausserhofer for 1:09 towards the end of the third period for an extra skater, but the Statesmen were unable to capitalize. Ausserhofer finished with 20 saves in goal for Hobart. Ryan Malinowski stopped 33 shots in all 60 minutes for Buffalo State.

The Statesmen held a 34-23 advantage in shots. Hobart went 0-for-7 on the power play, while the Bengals were 1-for-6.

Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 10 when they travel to take on No. 2 Oswego for another non-conference game beginning at 7 p.m.
