CANTON, N.Y.—Hobart junior forward
Matt Pebole scored a game-high 26 points, but St. Lawrence eked out a 66-64 men's basketball victory over the Liberty League's front-runner. The loss drops the Statesmen to 18-5 overall, 10-2 in the conference, while the Saints improve to 11-11, 7-5.
Pebole was 11-of-21 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the free throw line. He also grabbed eight rebounds. Senior guard
Tim Llewellyn added nine points, all from beyond the arc, while first-year forward
Richie Bonney grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Garrett Sharlow paced St. Lawrence with 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Ralph Temgoua joined him in double digits with 16 points, including eight of his team's final 10, and six rebounds.
With the game tied 56-all, Temgoua put the Saints back in front with a traditional three-point play. Llewellyn tied the game for the seventh and final time with a modern 3-pointer with 79 seconds to go. Temgoua responded with a long-range jumper of his own for a 62-59 SLU lead.
Pebole capped his scoring with a layup with 23 seconds left to make it a 1-point game, but the Saints earned a trip to the line just a second later. Sharlow made both to restore the 3-point lead.
Hobart missed a 3 and had to foul Temgoua, who grabbed the rebound. He made both freebies to push the lead to five. Statesmen sophomore guard

A close game from start to finish, neither team led by more than five. Both teams shot 39.1 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the line. Hobart made twice as many 3-pointers (8-4), but St. Lawrence earned twice as many trips to the free throw line as the Statesmen (16-8).
With two games remaining in the regular season, the Saints are the only team to beat the Statesmen in league play (80-77 in overtime on Jan. 28.
Hobart's league lead is now a game and a half over Rensselaer (14-7, 8-3). Following a home game agianst Vassar on Tuesday, the Engineers will visit Bristol Gym on Friday, Feb. 18. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
