#11 Soaring Eagles defeat #14 Statesmen

ELMIRA, N.Y.—
The No. 11 Elmira College hockey team defeated the 14th-ranked Statesmen 4-0 in an ECAC West game tonight, completing a weekend sweep. Hobart is now 13-8-2 overall and 3-6-1 in the conference, while the Soaring Eagles improve to 15-5-3 overall and 8-2-0 in the ECAC West.

Elmira's first goal came at 15 minutes, 9 seconds in the first period. Jesper Strale tallied his seventh goal of the season off assists from John Cewlow and Martin Lee.

The Soaring Eagles registered three more goals in the middle period. Kevin Willer capitalized on a power play to make it 2-0 at 8:28. Karl Linden earned the assist. Rick Acorn collected a pass from Dylan Herold and found the back of the net to put Elmira up by three at 16:46. Jesper Strale recorded his second goal of the night at 18:23 for the final. Brendan Sanders and Colin Hoey set up the play.

Sophomore Martin Ausserhofer played the opening 15:09 and the final 11:54 in goal for Hobart and finished with 12 saves. Sophomore Nick Broadwater came in to play 32:57 and stopped 28 shots. Darren McDonald played all 60 minutes in goal for the Soaring Eagles and recorded 32 saves.

Elmira held a 44-32 advantage in shots. The Soaring Eagles were 1-for-8 on the power play. The Statesmen went 0-for-7.

Hobart will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 18, when the Statesmen travel to Manhattanville for another ECAC West contest at 7 p.m.
