CANTON, N.Y.—
William Smith senior guard Mollie Danahy scored a game and season-high 28 points, but Vassar captured its first Liberty League Women's Basketball Tournament Championship by a score of 77-67.

An All-Tournament selection, Danahy was the only Heron to reach double digits, scoring on 12-of-24 shots, including three 3-pointers. Junior guard Kristen Kush recorded nine points and six rebounds, while sophomore guard Sydni Salvatore logged nine points, five rebounds, a team-high four assists, and a game-high three steals.

Tournament MVP Brittany Parks paced the Brewers with 27 points, including 14-of-15 from the free throw line. All-Tournament pick Cyndi Matsuoka chipped in 20 points, while Hannah Senftleber added a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Vassar (16-11) scores six straight points to build its biggest lead of the first half, 31-21 with 1:58 to go, but William Smith (16-11) halved its deficit heading into halftime down 33-28.

The Herons went on a 13-6 run to start the second half to seize the lead for the first time since the game's seventh minute. Danahy fueled the run with seven points. The Brewers countered with nine unanswered points to take the lead for good.

It was still a three-point game after the last of Danahy's triples, but Vassar used another 9-0 run to stretch its advantage to 12. The Herons trailed by at least seven for the remainder of the contest.

Despite shooting 38.8 percent from the floor, William Smith made two more field goals than Vassar. Both teams sank seven 3-pointers, but the difference in the game was at the free throw line. The Herons were an efficient 8-for-10, but the Brewers earned 25 trips to the stripe and made 22.
