GENEVA, N.Y.—Sophomore
Frank Salituro recorded two goals and an assist as the No. 15 Hobart hockey team played through overtime to a 4-4 tie with Neumann in an ECAC West game at The Cooler this afternoon.
The Statesmen are now 13-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in ECAC West play. The Knights are 10-7-5 overall and 4-4-1 in the league.
The Statesmen struck first 8 minutes, 47 seconds into the first period. Senior
Danny Organ scored his third goal of the season off an assist from first-year
Brett Riley. The Knights tied the game at one when Michael Rey scored on a power play for his team-leading 11th goal of the season at 12:19. Harley Garrioch earned the assist.
Just 16 seconds into the second period, sophomore
Harry Radovich put Hobart back on top. Salituro won a faceoff for the Statesmen and got the puck to Radovich who registered his second goal this year. At 9:32, Salituro scored his first goal of the night to give Hobart a two-goal lead.
Neumann answered just 52 seconds later when Steve Gervais scored his seventh goal of the year to make it 3-2. Salituro put Hobart back up by two with his second goal of the night after a pass from sophomore
Brad Richard. It was Salituro's seventh goal this year.
The Knights came out strong in the final period and scored twice to tie up the game. Will Lacasse scored both goals. The first came 1:51 into the period off an assist from Rey. The game-tying goal came with just 2:52 left in regulation. Jake Kratz set up the play.
Neither team could net the game-winner through five minutes of overtime. Neumann took two shots in the extra period, and the Statesmen recorded three. The Knights held a 42-29 advantage in total shots. Neumann was 1-for-6 on the power-play, and Hobart went 0-for-7.
Sophomore
Nick Broadwater played all 65 minutes in goal for the Statesmen and finished with 38 saves. Ross MacKinnon played the entire game in goal for the Knights, and stopped 25 shots.
Hobart will play its final regular season home game on Friday, Feb. 11. The Statesmen will host Elmira for another ECAC West game at The Cooler at 7 p.m.
