DALLAS, Pa.—The No. 4 William Smith soccer team traveled to take on Misericordia in its season opener, and came away with a 1-0 win tonight at Mangelsdorf Field. The contest also marked the season-opener for the Cougars.
The lone goal of the game came in the final minute of the first half. First-year
Madeline Buckley took a corner kick for the Herons. Misericordia's goalkeeper came four yards off the goal line and tried to clear it, but deflected the ball into the goal.
Senior
Amanda Davis played all 90 minutes in goal for William Smith and finished with one save. Jess Anderson stopped two shots for the Cougars. The Herons enjoyed an 7-3 advantage in shots and a 5-1 lead in corners.
The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 3 when they travel to take on Babson at 11 a.m.
