#18 Herons come up short in OT at #5 Skidmore

BOX SCORE

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—
Junior goalie Taryn Little matched her career-high in saves, but it wasn't enough for the upset minded William Smith field hockey team today. No. 5 Skidmore scored in the eighth minute of overtime to slip past the No. 18 Herons 1-0 in a Liberty League match up.

Little produced 12 saves, including two in overtime, but the Thoroughbreds (7-0, 2-0 Liberty) were able to escape with the victory thanks to a penalty corner midway through the extra session. Annie Rosencrans drove home the game-winner set up by Jackie Slocombe and Kelly Blackhurst 7:27 into extra time.

In regulation, the Herons (6-2, 0-1) had a scoring chance at the end of the first half, earning a corner to extend the period, but Margaret McConnell's shot was sent just wide.

Skidmore opened the second half on the offensive, but were unable to get one past Little. William Smith came on strong in the last five minutes of regulation, but Thoroughbred goalie Haley McDougall came up with two big saves to down the stretch to help send the game to overtime.

McDougall made four saves to record her third shutout of the season.

The Herons will be back in action at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, when they visit St. Lawrence (4-3, 1-0). The Saints outlasted Rochester 5-4 in overtime today.
