Yeboah scores in OT, leads Hobart to win over #14 Babson

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Tony Yeboah scored the game-winning goal 7 minutes, 11 seconds into overtime to push the Hobart soccer team to a 1-0 win over host No. 14 Babson in a non-conference game played on Hartwell-Rogers Field this afternoon. The Statesmen improve to 2-0, and the Beavers dropped their second straight game.

The Statesmen were relentless in overtime, outshooting Babson 8-1 in the period, including four attempts on goal. Babson senior goalkeeper Peter Crowley made a valiant effort to keep the game going, making a fantastic charging save on a breakaway down the left side by Kyle Herod at 95:54 and followed that up with a magnificent diving stop on a point-blank header by Caetano Sanchez at 96:19. However, the Statesmen would not be denied asYeboah broke through the defense in the 98th minute. He took a long pass from junior Ian McGarty and fired a low shot that beat the Babson keeper and slid just inside the far post.

The Statesmen's best chances in regulation both belonged to Yeboah. He nearly opened the scoring midway through the first half, hitting the post on a blast from the top of the penalty box. Crowley made a stop again in the 60th minute, with a kick save on a hard blast from the penalty spot.

The Statesmen out-shot the Beavers, 21-12. Hobart also enjoyed an 8-3 advantage in corners.

Senior Charlie Hale finished with four saves for Hobart. Peter Crowley stopped 11 shots in goal for Babson.

The Statesmen will travel to take on Wheaton (Mass.) in another non-league game tomorrow, Sept. 4 at 1:30 p.m.
