WELLESLEY, Mass.—Five different Herons scored as the fourth-ranked William Smith soccer team breezed to a 5-0 win over host Wellesley in a non-conference game played this afternoon.
Senior
Jamie Sawyer and first-year
Dineo Mmutla led the Herons each registering a goal and an assist. William Smith improves to 3-0 and earned its third straight shutout. The Blue (1-1-1) dropped their first game of the year.
Sawyer broke a scoreless tie 2 minutes, 11 seconds into the second period. Her unassisted tally gave the Herons a 1-0 lead. In the 73rd minute, junior
Whitney Frary scored her second goal in as many days. Sawyer sent a pass to Frary, who fired a long shot into the far left side of the goal to put William Smith up by two.
Mmutla scored her first collegiate goal in the 77th minute. Junior
Renee Jensen sent a crossing pass from the right side, and Mmutla's shot beat the goalkeeper into the left corner of the goal. Just 43 seconds later, junior
Rachel Geruso registered a goal after collecting a pass from Mmutla that stretched the Heron's lead to 4-0. In the 80th minute, it was junior
Morgan Gibeault's turn to score her first goal of 2011, making it 5-0. First-year

Senior
Amanda Davis played the opening 75:42 in goal for William Smith and finished with one save. Sophomore
Chelsea Dunay came in to play the final 14:18. Claire Cerda started in goal for the Blue, and made five saves in the first half. S.J. Gray came in for the second half and stopped four shots.
The Herons enjoyed a 33-3 advantage in shots. Wellesley held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
William Smith will host No. 2 Messiah College in the first game of the Heron Cup on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m.
