Statesmen to host Dutchmen to open league play

The Hobart basketball team will host Union on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 8 p.m. in Bristol Gym. The Statesmen begin league play with a 7-2 overall record.

Starting with Tuesday's game, the Statesmen Athletic Association will be providing a shuttle bus at all Hobart home basketball games. The shuttle will pick up fans from Medbery parking lot and drop them off at the back of Bristol Gym. It will run 30 minutes prior to each game and 30 minutes after the game has finished.

Hobart began 2012 playing in the Sponaugle New Year's Tournament in Lancaster, Pa. The Statesmen defeated Drew 91-62 on Jan. 2, but then fell to No. 8 Franklin & Marshall 81-71 the next day.

Junior Stefan Thompson is leading Hobart in scoring with 15.1 ppg. He has also posted a team best in steals (11) and assists (4.0 apg). Thompson ranks sixth in the Liberty League in scoring and fifth in assists. Senior Matt Pebole is second on the team producing 14.3 ppg. He is contributing a team-high eight blocks and ranks second in the conference grabbing 7.8 rbg. The Statesmen lead the league in field goal percentage (.518), 3-point field goal percentage (.410) and rebounding defense (28.3 p/g).

Union brings a 7-3 overall mark and an 0-2 record in Liberty League play to Bristol Gym.  The Dutchmen dropped games to St. Lawrence and Vassar to begin conference play this past weekend. Keven Donohue leads Union in scoring posting 16.2 ppg. Donohue is also bringing down a team-high 8.4 rpg and has chipped in nine blocks. Joe Mason has produced team-highs with 12 steals and 49 assists this season.
