Box Score The Vassar men's soccer team scored in the 34th minute to edge Hobart 1-0 in a Liberty League match played today at the Brewers' Gordon Field.
The Brewers (8-4-1, 3-1-1) will next host Rochester Institute of Technology tomorrow afternoon while, Hobart (7-4-0, 2-3-0) will also play another Liberty League match as, the Statesmen travel to Annadale-on-Hudson to face Bard College at 2 p.m.
Mrlik got the game-winning goal when Jordan Palmer took back-to-back corner kicks in the 33rd minute. Palmer's first kick went to Mrlik who headed it and was blocked by a Statesman defender. The second kick went to Hobart's sophomore goalkeeper
Mike Lucas who punched the ball straight in the air. Junior Juliano Pereira met the ball to tip it towards Mrlik for the game-winning goal in the top right corner of the net.
The Statesmen's greatest chance to tie the game happened in the 87th minute when senior
Caetano Sanchez sent a shot from the right side of the box towards the right post. The Vassar goalkeeper, Ryan Grimme, managed a knock-down save but inadvertently sent the ricochet towards senior
Alex Kittelberger. Kittelberger's shot nearly found the goal but Grimme grabbed the low shot before it got to the line.
Vassar outshot Hobart 21-14 but both teams places seven of each of their shots on goal. The Brewers held a 7-5 advantage in corners.
Grimme had seven saves for Vassar and Lucas managed six for the Statesmen.
