Box Score Five different members of the Hobart College soccer team scored a goal as the Statesmen breezed to a 5-0 win over host Bard in a Liberty League match played this afternoon.
Hobart, who improved to 8-4-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the Liberty League, dominated from the start, producing 16 corners in the first half alone and outshooting Bard, 31-1, on the game. The Raptors fall to 2-12-2 overall and 0-6-0 in conference play.
Three Statesmen tallied their first goals of the season in the match. First-year
Zico Gaeffke led Hobart with a goal and an assist, and senior Mike Moulton logged two assists. It was the Statesmen's fifth shutout this fall.
Hobart scoring started in the 14th minute. The Statesmen were pressing forward, and on the last of six consecutive corner kicks, Gaeffke headed in a corner kick sent into the box from junior
Kaeghan Kelly to make it 1-0. It was Gaeffke's first collegiate tally.
The Statesmen scored three times in a 10 minute span to grab a 4-0 lead before halftime. Senior
Caetano Sanchez capitalized on a feed from Moulton in the 21st minute. Then first-year
Jacob Fox scored on a penalty kick after being taken down in the box in the 27th minute. Senior
Reuben Burk notched his first goal of the season on an unassisted tally in the 31st minute.
First-year
Tyler Terens scored in the 61st minute after a pass from Moulton to provide the final margin. It was Terens' first collegiate goal.
Sophomore
Mike Lucas got the win in goal, playing the opening 45 minutes in goal for Hobart. First-year
Tyler Serafine played 28:43 and junior
Mark Benya saw 16:17 in goal for the Statesmen. None of the three keepers used by Hobart faced a shot on goal. Gabe Rudd played the first 70:49 in goal for Bard and made five saves. Daniel Gagne came in to play the final 19:11 and stopped two shots.
Next up for the Statesmen is a non-league home game against Nazareth on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The match will be played on Boswell Field.
