Statesmen to take on Valiants in ECAC West semifinal

The Hobart hockey team, which clinched the No. 3 seed with two victories last weekend, will face second-seeded Manhattanville in an ECAC West Tournament semifinal game tomorrow, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Valiants' Playland Ice Casino.

It will be the Statesmen's third straight game, and fourth this season, against Manhattanville. Hobart (14-10-1, 5-6-1 ECACW) started last weekend in fifth place in the conference standings, but shutout the Valiants 3-0 on Friday night and cruised to a 10-3 victory on Saturday to secure the No. 3 seed and avoid the ECAC West play-in game. The Statesmen defeated Manhattanville 4-0 in Rye, N.Y., in their second game of the season back on Nov. 4.

First-year Tommaso Traversa and senior Greg Ciciola have paced Hobart vs. the Valiants this season. Traversa has tallied two goals and five assists, while Ciciola has produced two goals and four assists. Junior Frank Salituro has registered five points on three goals and two assists.

Salituro leads Hobart with 26 points and 15 assists. Ciciola has recorded a team-high 13 goals and chipped in eight assists. Junior Nick Broadwater is back in goal and is sporting a .905 save percentage and a 3.08 goals against average. With the two wins last weekend, he improved his record in net to 4-5-0 this year.

Scott Hudson leads the Valiants (13-8-3, 6-6-0) with 29 points and 14 goals and shares a team-high with 15 assists. Brendan Turner has also logged 15 assists this winter. He has also produced 11 goals for 26 points. Pierre-Olivier Lemieux has played the majority of minutes in goal for Manhattanville. He has recorded a .911 save percentage and a 2.89 goals against average.

In the other semifinal, top-seeded Elmira (15-7-3, 8-2-2) will host No. 5 Neumann (14-7-3, 3-6-3) on Saturday at 7 p.m. The semifinal winners will square off in the championship game on Saturday, March 3 at the highest remaining seed.
